2016 NYE Card
Every year I like to design holiday cards for my friends and family. After taking a course in hand lettering,
I decided that 2016’s card would be a hand lettered typographic phrase. I was inspired by the glitz and glam of
the Art Deco movement and thought it would be a fun style to emulate. Clinking champagne glasses and ornate
embellishments finish off the card giving it a celebratory feel.
Digitizing the Type
I outlined my sketches in marker and scanned them into the computer so they could be digitzed. In Illustrator, they
were turned into vector and cleaned up, pixel by pixel, to have a polished final appearence. Once in the computer, I
was able to edit the sketches and remove details that were distracting from the overall piece. Below you can see my
original sketch and the revised digital version underneath.
